『光が死んだ夏 8』は、少年よしきと光が共に育った集落で展開される物語。光とすり替わった存在「ヒカル」が、あの世からこの世に戻る方法を探し求め、よしきの「お願い」を叶えるための旅を描く。一方で、よしきの体に広がる痣に心配する暮林は、次の穴を自分自身が閉じに行くと提案するが、その裏には意外な人物の思惑が隠されている。巻末には、よしきが生前の光の記憶を振り返る描き下ろし短編も収録され、読者をさらに引き込む。この巻では、キャラクターたちの思いが深まり、物語の奥行きがさらに広がる。

In volume 8 of ‘The Summer When Light Died,’ the story follows two boys, Yoshiki and Hikaru, who grew up together in a village. Hikaru, who has replaced Hikaru, searches for a way to return from the other side to this world in order to fulfill Yoshiki’s request. Meanwhile, Murabayashi, worried about the spreading bruises on Yoshiki’s body, proposes to close the next hole himself, but there seems to be an unexpected motive behind his decision. The volume also includes a special short story at the end, where Yoshiki recalls the memories of the living Hikaru, deepening the emotional depth of the narrative.
