In the Meiji era, brothers Suzume and Aoi Mishima, doctors at a military hospital, conduct experiments on a technique to revive the dead. After successful animal trials, they move on to human experiments, but Aoi is killed by an assassin group. Suzume performs the surgery on Aoi as the subject, but the outcome is unexpected.
