『戦争めし 12』は、令和8年に発刊された戦後の夏をテーマにした昭和の追憶短編集の第12弾です。この作品では、「あの日」から80年が経った今、パラオ共和国のペリリュー島を訪れた作者が、現地で非業の死を遂げた海軍兵の“万感の記録”や“ある奇蹟”に出会います。その取材を経て、作者は“涙こぼれるドラマ”を丁寧に描き出します。また、今回の『戦争めし』では「食」だけでなく「衣」にも注目し、群馬県桐生市で終戦直後に誕生した「スカジャン」の実話が描かれています。さらに、北方領土での戦時中の「命の物語」も収録されています。戦後100年に向けて、風化させてはいけない“昭和ニッポン人”の暮らしぶりとその息吹を未来へ繋ぐ一冊です。

『戦争めし 12』 is the 12th volume of a post-war summer-themed collection of short stories set in the Showa era, published in Reiwa 8. In this work, the author visits Peleliu Island in the Republic of Palau 80 years after the events of that day, encountering the ‘moving records’ and ‘miracle’ of a naval soldier who died tragically. Through this research, the author carefully portrays ‘tearful dramas.’ This volume also focuses on ‘clothing,’ revealing the untold story of the ‘skate jacket’ that emerged in Takatori City, Gunma Prefecture, shortly after the end of the war. Additionally, it includes stories of lives during the war in the Northern Territories. As we approach the 100th anniversary of the post-war period, this book preserves the lives and spirit of ‘Showa-era Japanese people’ and connects them to the future.
